This session took place in an outdoor location I have never photographed in before, Natomas. This area park has a deeply slopping lawn, which was perfect to get a lush green backdrop for the family. I was thrilled that they decided to bring their dog, Tico, along. He is so much like my own little chihuahua mix!
Little Mateo was just turning 2 years old. His birthday treat was a trip to the Sacramento train museum, and a new Tommy the Train toy, of which he was inseparable. Mom and Dad were totally ok with Tommy making his appearance in the portraits with his new playmate.
Every good portrait session with a toddler makes room for them to run about as the spirit takes them. It's a great reward for having sat and posed for me. Sitting and posing is no easy task for a toddler!
We had a tiny distraction in the form of another park go-er's French Bulldog (not pictured here) who ran excitedly over to sniff everyone, and all my equipment. That dog was WAY more exciting than me for a time. After dog the was promptly retrieved by his owners, we got back to business. :-)
Of course the dog gets a portrait by himself!
And finally, we had a costume change, and took some shots to show team spirit.
Aaaand then we knew the session was done when Mateo had had enough. But both mom and I thought this image was so cute, that it made it into the family album.
